Abstract
The design of complex instrumentation used in Medical Physics includes generally a detection section, an acquisition section and a software section, there is also a strong interdisciplinary collaboration of specialists in this area to fulfill this task. The software section is considered on this kind of applications in Software Engineering as a critical system due to the fact that the health and even the life of the patient could be under a risk if a failure or wrong operation occurs. A critical system, must fulfill different requirements of quality, availability, reliability, and safety. The use of a strict methodology of Software Engineering in the development of software for this applications could guaranty a high quality product that fulfills all the requirements of a critical system. The application of Software Engineering in the development of a System for the measurement of X‐rays is presented in this work as a case study. The proposed methodology for programming and software development could be applied to other cases in the design of complex instrumentation for Medical Physics applications, gaining availability, reliability and safety. In this work we apply a Software Process which helps to develop critical systems.
