Abstract
The authors proposed a risk analysis method suitable for autonomous ships, which consists of a system modeling method and a hazard identification method. In this study, to verify the applicability of the method and identify critical issues for a remote ship operation, we tried to apply the method to a remote operation of a small experimental ship, Shinpo. A model diagram of Shinpo was developed and hazards within the ship were identified referring to the diagram. As a result, some critical issues for a remote ship operation such as communication troubles between a ship and a remote operation centre, and human-related factors were identified. Through the trial application of the method, we found the method was suitable for risk analysis of a remote ship operation, and would contribute to improving the safety of autonomous ship systems including remote operation systems.
