Abstract
Some results are presented from application of a direct pyrographic characterization method to natural waters from several localities in the western United States. Differences were observed in the numbers and intensities of peaks in the pyrolytic spectra. Investigations are underway to develop the technique for use in characterizing the organic matter in natural waters.
