Abstract

In this paper, an efficient technique in fault detection and localization of leaky coaxial cable (LCX) is presented. The approach utilizes a high-resolution reflectometry technique, which injects a reference signal into an LCX and handles the reflected signal to locate the fault. The reference signal adopts a linear frequency modulation signal by an approximately rectangular magnitude spectrum, which can ensure that the detection distance is large enough. And the pulse compression technique is used to improve the resolution of the reflected signal. Therefore, the approach can solve the contradiction between the detection distance and the high-resolution. The proposed method is verified by detecting various types of faults at different distances in MSLYFYVZ-50-9 LCX.
