Abstract

This paper presents a Stockwell Transform based approach for the detection of the transmission line faults in the presence of dynamic load. The fault detection and diagnosis problems are considered with various types of the power system faults. The different types of faults are created using MATLAB/Simulink and the voltage and load current during the faulty event extracted and decomposed using Stockwell Transform and S-matrix is obtained. The S-matrix is used to obtain the S-contour and variance curve which are utilized to detect the various types of faults. The power system faults such as line to ground (LG), double line (LL), double to ground (LLG) and three-phase fault involving ground (LLLG) has been successfully detected and discriminated from each other using the proposed algorithm. A test system comprising of one generator, one transformer, two buses and inductive-resistive/dynamic load has been utilized to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm. The proposed technique also has the advantages that it is not affected by the noise in the voltage and current signals. The results are validated using a test system with two buses, a generator, a transformer and dynamic load.
