Abstract

Piezoelectric copolymer film of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) and trifluoroethylene (TrFE) is successfully used as a transducer material in a highly sensitive miniature hydrophone. Two types of highly sensitive and low noise miniature hydrophones, a needle type and a cylindrical one, were made of VDF-TrFE copolymer with a comonomer ratio of 78/22. The miniature hydrophones were constructed using a Semi-rigid Coaxial Cable and allow easy access to the field to be measured. Absolute sensitivity measurements were carried out by a three transducer reciprocity calibration for three hydrophones with copolymer of different thicknesses.
