Abstract

AbstractThis chapter demonstrates application of the MTS model to hexagonal close-packed (HCP) metals. Both pure HCP metals and several HCP based alloys are considered. The dependence of yield strength on temperature and, in some cases, strain rate is modeled using both one-parameter and two-parameter models. Kinetics of hardening in these metals follow the kinetics demonstrated in FCC and BCC metals and alloys. Effects of deformation twinning, dynamic strain aging, and dynamic recrystallization are observed. Deformation twinning in Zr is studied in some detail. The influence of irradiation damage on strength and strain hardening in Zircaloy-2 is presented.KeywordsMechanical threshold stressMTS modelYield stressZincCadmiumMagnesiumZirconiumTitaniumMagnesium alloy AZ31Zircaloy-2Ti-6Al-4 VDeformation kineticsStructure evolutionDeformation twinningDynamic Strain AgingDynamic recrystallization
