Abstract

This paper details a control scheme that allows the use of the Model Predictive Pulse Pattern Control (MP3C) method to control Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (IPMSMs) using a two-level inverter. The MP3C is an established method to achieve optimal current distortion per switching frequency at steady state and a fast and stable dynamic response. Even though preceding works that control induction machines have been reported in the literature, the complete scheme and details to control IPMSMs have not yet been reported, thus the novelty of this paper. We explain the control mechanism in detail, and the simulation performance results of the proposed control scheme are presented. For comparison purposes, we compare simulation results to a traditional Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) with Field- Oriented control.
