Abstract

Background: Today, the treatment of anastomotic leakage is still a challenging issue associated with high morbidity and mortality, especially esophageal surgery. Endoscopic vacuum-assisted closure (EVAC) is a technique that uses negative pressure wound therapy to treat fistula endoscopically. Recently, endoscopic approaches have been applied with a high success rate. An endo-SPONGE connected to a nasogastric tube under endoscopic guide into a fistula cavity. This procedure facilitates healing, obtains source control, and aid in reperfusion of the adjacent tissue with debridement. Case report: We report a post-thoracoscopicesophagectomy case of a 74-year-old man who successfully treated anastomotic leakage using EVAC. Result: This is the first case report of applying this new technique in our country and achieving successful outcomes
