Abstract

SUMMARY The author discusses the application and use of MARC21–Concise Format for Bibliographic Data in Bulgarian libraries. The paper focuses on the adoption and development of the format in the Central Library of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and the creation of templates for bibliographic description that accommodate our traditional practices of bibliographic description and the specificities of Bulgarian publication activity. Explained in greater detail is the template for description of microfilms of medieval Slavic manuscripts. The author describes the field selections that have been made during the process of adopting of the MARC21 format, and the steps that have been taken to promote more widespread adoption of this metadata format in Bulgaria.
