Abstract

A new technique for surface structure analysis, low energy neutral ionization spectroscopy (LENIS), has been developed. A comparison of low energy ion scattering (LEIS) with the new LENIS technique has been made. It has been found that neutralization processes influence the shape of the polar angular ion distributions of 5 keV neon ions scattered by a Pt(110) surface whereas the shape of the polar angular ion distributions of 5 keV neon atoms scattered and ionized by the Pt(110) surface is not influenced by neutralization processes.
