Abstract

When driving at night, the driver may be troubled by the intense light shined by the vehicles coming from the opposite direction. The automobile lighting system and the windshield with polarizers have been designed to solve this problem in this paper, thus replacing the traditional non-polarized illuminating light with linearly polarized light. The experiment reveals that, for a wide range of tilt angles of the windshield, the intensity of light emitted by other automobiles that a driver can receive will be reduced by 40%--64%, while the driving visibility is little affected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the new system can effectively increase the safety factor of night driving.
