Abstract

In this paper, a new approach has been presented based on linear search algorithm technique to tune the parameters of the proportional, integral and derivative (PID) control for a twin rotor multi-input multi-output system (TRMS). Twin rotor MIMO system is a laboratory setup of helicopter model and the proposed approach is demonstrated through this setup. The control task is to make the system to track the desired position quickly and accurately with minimum total absolute error. The mathematical modeling of helicopter model has been developed and the designed controller has been simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. By using proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller the 2° of freedom (2-DOF) of TRMS have been controlled both in horizontal and vertical direction. Simulation results are obtained for different input test signals. The comparison between simulation and experimental results with the previous works illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed tuning method.
