Abstract

Introduction. Significant advances in wireless technology, miniaturization and device computing power are driving innovation in medical technology, leading to the development of an increasing number of connected medical devices capable of generating, collecting, analyzing, and transmitting data that, along with the devices themselves, are creating the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) – connected infrastructure of medical devices, software applications, systems and services. Objective. To consider the main advantages and possibilities of using IoT technologies in healthcare in the world and assess the prospects for their use in the Russian Federation. Materials and methods. In preparing the article, a systematic review of publications and sites on the Internet was used, as well as publications in the bibliographic databases PubMed, ScienceDirect in terms of the use of Internet of Things technologies in healthcare. Results. The development of IoT technology in the world has become possible due to the reduction in the cost of computing power and the development of “cloud” technologies and “big data”. The main advantages of using IoT in healthcare are characterized by reduced costs, improved treatment results and patient participation in the treatment and prevention process. The use of IoT in healthcare allows us to move to a new level of disease diagnosis, treatment accuracy and tracking of patients health using micro- and nanodetectors and other “smart devices”. The development of Internet of Things technologies in the Russian Federation is stated as one of the primary tasks of the digital transformation of the healthcare industry, a significant economic effect from the introduction of technologies is possible by reducing the load on hospitals. Conclusion. The Internet of Things has significant potential to transform the healthcare, changing the business model in the healthcare industry, in which patients and service providers receive many benefits. The use of IoT in healthcare makes it possible to create a proactive healthcare system focused on prevention.
