Abstract
The focus of this study is on the application of information technology in Nigerian special libraries in Owerri urban. Three special libraries in Owerri Urban were used for the research work. They are Imo State Judiciary Central Library, Federal College of Land Resources Technology Library and Imo State Ministry of Justice Library. This study classified information technology and discussed principally the application of computer technology in the libraries mentioned above and how it can steer the overall improvement of library operations and services. The paper further examined the extent of stock of the information technology and the level of it’s application in the libraries under study. Also some of the problems impeding promotion of the use of the information technology in the libraries were highlighted as well as the consequences on effective information storage retrieval and delivery. Four research questions were constructed to serve as a guide. Data were collected through questionnaire, interviews and observation. The data so collected were organized in tabular form and analysed with the use of simple percentage and charts. The study further suggested ways for improvement.
