Abstract

Language is an important carrier of the national spirit and cultural heritage in inter-state communication, while translation bridges the international exchanges. Cognitive linguistics explains how we organize our cognitive structure, including the experiential view, the figure/ground theory and the attentional view. The positive impact process of figure and ground theory to translation will be employed in this paper to illustrate the single sentence translation, which explains such frequently encountered questions as why a noun or sentence is often chosen as the subject, while the verb as a predicate, which are difficult to make a reasonable explanation with previous theories.
