Abstract

Objective To explore the application of catheterization guided by urethral probe in patients with urinary retention in benign prostatic hyperplasia.Methods 98 cases of acute urinary retention with benign prostatic hyperplasia were treated with conventional catheterization,43 failed.Then with urethral probe-guided catheterization,we inserted a 2.5 mm urethral probe from the side holes at the end of the 16F balloon catheter,leading catheter insertion.Result 41 succeeded out of 43 patients treated by probe-guided catheterization,with a success rate of 95.35%,2 cases was performed suprapubic bladder fistulization.Conclusion It' s a safe,effective and simple method using probeguided catheterization to treat acute urinary retention of elder male with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
