Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of moist heat compress of compound Danhong tincture on the prevention of phlebitis. Methods Totals of 240 patients with the intravenous infusion treatment with dehydration swelling solution were divided into three groups ( Group A, Group B and Group C) , with 80 patients each.Group A was treated with the moist heat compress of compound Danhong tincture.Group B was treated with heat compress of Hirudoid.Group C was treated with the moist heat compress of 33%Magnesium sulfate. The moist heat compress was placed 2-3 centimeters above the puncture point 30 minutes after the intravenous infusion. The degree of local pain and the incidence of phlebitis of the three groups were compared among groups. Results In Group A, 70 patients had no pain;6 patients had mild pain and 4 patients had moderate or severe pain.In Group B, 42 patients had no pain;20 patients had mild pain and 18 patients had moderate or severe pain.In Group C, 40 patients had no pain;22 patients had mild pain and 18 patients had moderate or severe pain. There was a significant difference among groups ( Hc =29.857, P 〈0.01 ).In Group A, 76 patients did not have phlebitis; 3 patients had degreeⅠ phlebitis;1 patient had degree Ⅱ or degree Ⅲphlebitis. In Group B, 67 patients did not have phlebitis;10 patients had degreeⅠ phlebitis;3 patients had degreeⅡor degree Ⅲ phlebitis. In Group C, 65 patients did not have phlebitis; 11 patients had degreeⅠphlebitis;4 patients had degree Ⅱ or degree Ⅲ phlebitis. There was a significant difference among groups (Hc =7.383,P〈0.05).Conclusions The moist heat compress of compound Danhong tincture is effective for the early prevention of phlebitis. It can reduce the pain of infusion side upper limb and keep the infusion smoothly. It can also decrease the incidence of phlebitis and avoid the occurrence of severe phlebitis.
