Abstract

Over the years, there have been numerous debates and explanations on privatization of public space, its inclusivity, and of course the degree of publicness such spaces offer. The distinction of pure public space is a layered progression folding the publicness into a private space. The character sketch of these pseudo-public spaces have been defined by many theorists on the basis of accessibility, control, ownership, and typology transformation that happens. This paper bestows star model for measuring the publicness of such public spaces in a neighborhood, aiming to analyze the behavioral shift that subsequently emulates. The model is deliberated to be of value for analyzing the publicness of Indian neighborhoods in a rational manner with few implications of Indian context. The study concludes unravelling the new form of public space, supposedly taking control over our cities and its related complexities in redefining the meaning of publicness.
