Abstract

Homopolymer (H-Mpmi) of 3 -chloro- substituted of N-phenyl maleimide (N-Mpmi) monomer, was synthesized at 60°C in THF using benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as a free radical initiator. The average molecular weight is determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Thermal analysis reveals polymer show single step degradation. The TGA and DTA curves explain its percentage weight loss with temperature at different heating rate 5°C, 10 oC and 15 oC. The non-isothermal kinetic parameters values are obtained using Kissinger method. The activation energy (ΔE*), entropy of activation (ΔS*), enthalpy of activation (ΔH*) and Gibbs free energy (ΔG) increases gradually less with increase in heating rate. Since, endothermic peak was observed in the DTA of homopolymer of meta 3- chloro- substituted of N-phenyl maleimides, H-Mpmi suggesting large amount or bulk mass loss from polymeric chain
