Abstract

A major metabolite, an apotrisporoid and a sesquiterpenoid, has been identified in cultures of Blakeslea trispora. It is apotrisporin: 2,4,4,-trimethyl-3-(5′-hydroxyl-3′-methylpenta-1′,3′-dienyl)-cyclohex-2-enone. Its inability to stimulate the development of zygophores is consistent with its putative origin as an inactivation product of trisporin.
