Abstract

Mean monthly water discharge for the Baudó, San Juan and Patía rivers were modeled with a simple climatic runoff model. The model requires temperature and rainfall data, which were obtained from Instituto de Hidrología, Meteorología y Estudios Ambientales for more than 30 stations in the Pacific coast of Colombia. Monthly mean potential evapotranspiration, runoff ratio and the corresponding water discharge was calculated for representative station within each basin. Baudó, San Juan and Patía rivers monthly water discharge are more related to monthly rainfall variability than monthly temperature changes. A mean water discharge of 785.5, 2593.7 and 305.3 m3 s-1 was estimated for the Baudó, San Juan and Patía rivers, respectively.
