Abstract

Abstract The highest aphid populations in more than a decade stimulated this trial on headed spring wheat. Plots 7.6m x 7.6m were established in a commercial wheat field. Four treatments were arranged in a RCB design. Pretreatment aphid counts averaged 39.0/head, with a 5.5:1 BCOA:EGA ratio. The wheat berries were slightly over 3/4 filled (Feekes stage 11.1) on this date. Treatments were applied in 86 liter water/ha on 11 Jul. Posttreatment counts of aphids were taken on 20 heads per plot on 18 Jul. Yields were obtained by combining a 1.5m x 7.6m strip through the best portion of each plot. Yield, moisture, test weight and protein were taken. Yields were adjusted on the basis of a standard moisture.
