Abstract
Abstract In connection with the German Continental Deep Drilling Project (KTB), apatite fission-track studies were performed on Central European crystalline basement rocks. Samples were taken from basement outcrops in the Oberpfalz, Schwarzwald, Odenwald and Vogesen areas. Based on the fission track ages and lengths, the Post-Variscian thermo-tectonic evolution of the basement was reconstructed. Some useful concepts and models for the geological interpretation of apatite fission-track data from slowly cooling basement rocks are discussed.
