Abstract

Cars and trains would whizz quietly past on nearby aerial highways, while planes would criss-cross the sky in an orgy of transport delight. Life would be modern, magnificent and gloriously uncrowded. Some of the uses that you will need to cater for in the ground floor lobby are: Vertical circulation cores will lead to the chief horizontal circulation, usually in the form of an internal corridor, or a continuous external 'gallery' walkway spanning across several apartments. Decades of negative experience with single aspect, gallery access apartment buildings bear out this lesson. An internal corridor is standard for hotels and can work well for small apartment blocks with studio apartments or one-bedroom apartments, but it creates problems for larger apartment blocks. The truth, as it happens, has turned out quite different from Corb’s prophecy. World cities tried to implement his vision but most of his dream turned out to be an urban nightmare.
