Abstract

Slovenian artist-teacher Anton Ažbe’s studio, opened in 1891, was one of the most famous private art schools in Munich and attracted a lot of students from all over the world. This article is devoted to the Ažbe’s pedagogical method’s features and the structure of his Munich school’s specifics. The data of Ažbe’s school students, schedule, program and training conditions are given. An interesting relationship between the Ažbe’s school and the Munich Academy of Fine Arts is described. According to the preserved prospectus with the school program of 1900 and other sources of this period, the Ažbe’s pedagogical method’s features are reconstructed. The innovations introduced into the education process by Russian painter I.E. Grabar during the existence of the joint school of Ažbe and Grabar are considered. The elements of Ažbe’s psychological approach are described.
