Abstract

In this study, green nanoparticles were produced by the aqueous extract of the plant seed of Teucrium Parvifolium (T. Parvifolium). Structural and morphological analysis of nanoparticles was performed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV–vis. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC), and amount of bacterial growth zone were measured by disk diffusion at seven concentrations (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 mg/ml) and four replications. The results showed that the aqueous extract of T. Parvifolium seed had antimicrobial properties only on Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis, but, the prepared silver nanoparticles had antibacterial effects on all bacteria. Also, no significant difference (0.01 ≥ p) between the antibacterial effect of different concentrations of T.Parvifolium extract and silver nanoparticles. The highest antibacterial effect was observed in 128 mg/ml concentration. Results of XRD, TEM, and SEM analysis showed a spherical shape and crystal structure. Also, it was found that the particle size was in the nano range (14 nm). Therefore, the purpose of this research is to introduce the green nano-particle produced from silver nitrate and the T.Parvifolium extract seed for use in industries as cleaners, disinfectants, and preservatives in the future.
