Abstract

The essential oil extracted from the Zanthoxylum budrunga fruits was studied for anti-inflammatory activity against the exudative phase of inflammation by formalin-induced and carrageenin-induced rat hind paw oedema, and against the prolif erative phase of inflammation by the cotton pellet-induced granuloma in rats. Betamethasone and Indomethacin were used as standard drugs for comparison. The essential oil in concentrations of 0.1 and 0.2 % suppressed both phases of inflammatory reaction significantly and compared very well with Betamethasone and Indomethacin,
