Abstract

In modern medicine, no satisfactory effective therapy is still available to cure diabetes mellitus. Though, synthetic drugs are used for the management of diabetes mellitus but there are several drawbacks. The attributed anti-hyperglycemic and anti-hyperlipidemic effects of many traditional plants are due to their ability for the management of diabetes mellitus. To find out the effect of the ethanolic extract of Bauhinia tomentosa (Linn.) flower for the management of streptozotocin-induced diabetes . Ethanolic extract of Bauhinia tomentosa (Linn.) flower was tested in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat. Extract was administered intra peritoneal administered daily for 7 days at dose of 100 mg/Hg and 200 mg/Hg, for 48 hours after streptozotocin injection (100mg/Hg). The Streptozotocin-diabetic rats showed significant (p plasma insulin and glycosylated haemoglobin ( HbA1 C ) were significantly reduction (p ethanolic extract of Bauhinia tomentosa (Linn.) flower , when administered orally can reduce plasma glucose level, Total cholesterol, TG, LDL, and VLDL and increase HDL. These results further suggest clearly indicate Bauhinia tomentosa (Linn.) has potent for anti-hyperglycemic and anti-hyperlipidemic effects in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Composite extract of above plants parts have more potential anti-hyperglycemic and anti-hyperlipidemic activities.
