Abstract

Low temperature magnetization and neutron diffraction measurements were performed on γ-Fe80−xNixCr20 (x = 14, 17 and 21) alloys. Long-range antiferromagnetism is detected for the first time in polycrystalline samples around the stainless steel composition (x = 14 and 17). This long-range oder tends to break in the alloy with x = 21, where more Ni increase the ferromagnetic interaction leading to a spin-glass phase.
