Abstract

This paper investigates the antibacterial properties of anthracite/CuO composites. CuO nanoparticles were synthesized and deposited on anthracite particles by chemical bath deposition method. Structural and phase characteristics of synthesized nanoparticles were investigated by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Results showed that the proposed synthesis method ended up in a homogeneous distribution of CuO nanoparticles, anchored over anthracite particles. Synthesized anthracite/CuO composite showed promising antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739) and Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538).
