Abstract

The antifungal potential of bacterial isolates from wetlands were screened using the Well diffusion and Dual culture method against various pathogens. Four unknown bacterial isolates (KRB, A9, PRCM1 and PK9) were selected for the study. The bacterial isolate KRB showed antifungal activity against Colletotrichum and Rhizopus in Agar well diffusion method. KRB showed inhibition against Colletotrichum, Mucor, Penicillium, Rhizopus and A.flavus in Dual culture assay. The antifungal activity was also exhibited by isolate PRCM1against Colletotrichum and Mucor through well diffusion method. The isolate PK9 showed antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas by well diffusion method. Antioxidant activity of bacterial isolates were investigated using DPPH (2,2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging assays. The bacterial isolates PK9 and KRB showed DPPH free radical scavenging activity with percentage of 52.56 and 46.43 respectively. The bacterial isolate KRB was identified using 16 s rRNA sequencing as Bacillus subtilis.
