Abstract

Abstract The standard treatment for sexual disorders is multimodal, eclectic, and integrative. While no treatment program for the wide range ofparaphilic and nonparaphilic “excessive sexual” disorders (e.g., compulsive or addictive) relies on pharmacotherapy alone to manage the complex issues, the role for antiandrogen treatment is widely accepted. In this paper I review the current status of antiandrogen treatment in order to begin a clinical dialogue to establish guidelines for a Standard of Care when prescribing anti-androgens for the treatment of sexual disorders. Issues, treatment options, other drug therapies, target groups, evaluation protocols, contraindications, side effects, improvement indices, and forensic issues are discussed.
