Abstract
The knee provides the body with mobility and stability needed to perform everyday functions. In addition, the knee joint plays a role in our proprioception and muscle coordination through the ligaments. These knee ligaments are involved in stabilizing the joint. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a ligament that protects the tibia from forward translation. It is one of the most injured ligaments in the knee, with almost 400,000 patients undergoing ACL reconstruction surgery each year in the United States. This review aims to present a concise overview of previous and current management options available to treat ACL injuries.
