Abstract
Williams et al1Williams KP Farquharson DF Bebbington M Dansereau J Galerneau F Wilson RD et al.Screening for fetal well-being in a high-risk pregnant population comparing the nonstress test with umbilical artery Doppler velocimetry: a randomized controlled clinical trial.Am J Obstet Gynecol. 2003; 188: 1366-1371Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (57) Google Scholar reported the results of a prospective randomized comparison of nonstress testing (NST) versus umbilical Doppler velocimetry surveillance of fetal well-being in women with high-risk pregnancies. They found that women followed up with umbilical Doppler screening had fewer cesarean sections for fetal indications and more inductions of labor than did women followed up with the NST. We have invited Dr Roger Freeman, one of the pioneers of antenatal fetal surveillance, to comment on this interesting study.
