Achieving HIV prevention goals will require successful engagement in each stage of the HIV continuum. The present study sought to understand the ways in which socio-structural factors influence HIV care engagement among people living with HIV (PLH) within the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty-five PLH were recruited from January to October 2021. Semi-structured interviews discussed various socio-contextual factors that influenced engagement in HIV-related care as a result of the pandemic. A thematic content analysis reported semantic level themes describing factors influencing HIV care following an integrated inductive–deductive approach. Qualitative analysis revealed three themes that either supported or hindered engagement in care within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: (1) social determinants of health, (2) social support, and (3) modes of healthcare delivery. The results underscore the need to assess socio-structural factors of health as means to promote successful engagement in the HIV care continuum and shed new insights to guide future practice in the era of COVID-19.

The current paper aimed to comparatively scrutinize some key dimensions apposite for the dynamics of traditional versus virtual teams in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Emphasis was laid on the positive leadership perception, communication effectiveness among team members, objectives achievement, diversity approach, and the perception of team culture strength. Invitations to fill in an online questionnaire consisting of paired items were sent in January 2022 via email to over 200 potential respondents working in both traditional and virtual teams, using a snowball sampling technique; 137 subjects completed the entire questionnaire, hence allowing a reasonable research sample for conducting relevant statistical analyses (i.e., paired t-test given that the aim was to investigate the difference between paired sets of variables for the same issues). The empirical exploration brought to the fore significant differences among the considered dimensions, thus underscoring the benefits and drawbacks of working in traditional versus virtual teams in the context of the new normal. Evidence was brought forward that teamwork in traditional teams (i.e., based on face-to-face interaction) is preferable to that in virtual teams (i.e., based on online interaction). Meaningful differences were observed regarding the perception of team culture strength, communication effectiveness, positive leadership perception, and diversity approach in favor of traditional teams, the questioned respondents opting for the offline coordination and collaboration processes.

Objective: To report Nursing students' experience during a curricular internship in a hospital environment in the COVID-19 pandemic context. Methods: This is an experience report, of a descriptive-reflective nature, about the experiences of four students attending the 9th semester of the Nursing course at a Public University from the state of Minas Gerais, during the Supervised Curricular Internship in a hospital environment in the COVID-19 pandemic context. Results: The initial practice in a hospital environment generated insecurity in the students, due to fear in the face of the current scenario of increased COVID-19 cases. The students experienced frustration in not providing dignified care to these patients and fear of contaminating themselves and being a means of spreading the virus to others. In addition, some students presented symptoms suggestive of mental distress. Conclusion: The leading role of the Nursing team was observed by the students when they witnessed, in their everyday lives, the set of actions provided for the assistance and care of patients aggravated by COVID-19. Despite the professionals' work overload and non-guarantee of rest between shifts, there was care continuity.

This study intended to (1) estimate the prevalence of Self-Reported Smartphone Addiction among adolescents and (2) know the adolescents’ perspective on smartphone addiction in the COVID-19 pandemic context. The research is a sequential explanatory mixed-method study conducted with adolescents aged from 15 to 18 years old. In the first phase, a cross-sectional study was carried out with 479 adolescents and, in the second, an exploratory research with a qualitative approach was conducted with 16 participants, who were in the Focus Groups sessions. The estimated prevalence of self-reported smartphone addiction was 56.37%. The most prevalent symptoms were those related to the tolerance. Sequentially, from the qualitative analysis, two categories were identified that reveal how adolescents perceive smartphone addiction in the COVID-19 pandemic context, as well as how they unveil the elements that characterize this addiction. It can be concluded that most adolescents were classified as smartphone addicted and this is admitted by most of them during the sessions. The addictive relationship established with the device was intensified by the consequences of the pandemic. Thus, health professionals must implement actions aimed at an adaptive behavior towards smartphones and that promote mental health in adolescence.

Located in central-western Senegal, Fatick is a pastoralist area with over 26 health facilities, including Ndiaye-Ndiaye Health Post. The latter notified a Rift Valley fever (RVF) case during the 41st epidemiological week (EW), while outbreaks were noted in northern Senegal and its border country. Thus to investigate this outbreak, despite the COVID-19 pandemic context, a cross-sectional study (respecting ethical considerations) was conducted in October 2020 using a systemic and One Health approach. Data were collected by a multisectoral and transdisciplinary team using observation, literature reviews, interviews and other specific tools (Biogents-Sentinel). Analysis used Excel 2010 ®, EpiInfo TM/7.2.4.0 ® and QGIS® software. Findings confirmed, according to Senegalese adapted WHO’s case definitions, the RVF outbreak in Fatick with already two human cases and one animal case. Further field investigation showed that among human 19.8% consulted at the 42nd EW, 89% complained of headaches versus 34% of asthenia. The most affected age group was 25–50 years old with women predominating including 38%, 32% and 8% of students, housewives and shopkeepers, respectively. Travel was most prevalent in Dakar and Touba (31%), while the most visited facilities were Ndiaye-Ndiaye (35%) and Peulga (20%), versus Emetteur (2%). Regarding animal health, 40 animals were sampled from five herds, including 35% under 1 year old, 67.5% females, 95% ovines and 32.5% local breeds. Finally, entomo-environmental surveys confirmed an ecology favourable to RVF and identified 33% of competent vector species, including Culex quinquefasciatus . Elsewhere, 139 ticks were collected from livestock and a moderate dissemination risk (risk-criticality: 36%) was assessed in Fatick and the surrounding area. Information © The Authors 2025

439 Background: Clinician emotion regulation (ER), self and the patient’s, likely moderates successful prognostic discussions with patients, yet challenges around its evaluation limit its investigation. We performed a pilot study to develop and assess an experimental framework that uses multimodal assessment (self-report, observer, and biometric data) to measure clinician ER during a simulated, serious illness conversation (SIC). Methods: We developed our experimental framework in four steps: 1) drafted a patient case and assessment framework; 2) refined the data collection strategy using a multidisciplinary research team; 3) trained our actor; and 4) iteratively piloted the case to optimize data collection. For the assessment, we conducted a cross-sectional, case series pilot study with physicians trained in SIC to assess its feasibility and acceptability, defined a priori as an enrollment rate >60% of approached clinicians, > 90% completion rate of survey items, < 20% missing data from wearable heart rate variability (HRV) sensors. To characterize clinician ER strategies, we analyzed the visit dialogue, physician interviews performed while watching the visit back, and physician SIC documentation generated post visit. We used a hybrid approach of inductive and deductive coding and theme development based on preexisting ER theory. Results: The development phase yielded two major modifications: 1) abandoned use of AppleWatch since it did not provide continuous HRV measurement; and 2) used telehealth with video given context of COVID-19 pandemic. We approached 12 physicians and 11 enrolled, of which 5 were female and 10 white, 5 were medical oncologists, and 6 specialty palliative care physicians. All participants completed all study survey items. The results of our three HRV sensors were as follows: Empatica E4 and Polar H10 met our pre-specified HRV collection in all 11 resting tasks and SIC encounters, and the Scoche R24 the benchmark in 7/11 resting tasks and 4/11 of simulated encounters. Preliminary qualitative analysis suggests investigators can characterize clinician use of intrapersonal and interpersonal ER strategies. Conclusions: The use of multimodal assessment of clinician ER in a simulated, telehealth SIC visit was acceptable and feasible.
