Abstract

Protecting films were formed on a Duralumin matrix by using single ion beam mixing (IBM), double IBM and an oxidizing treatment, single anodic polarization and annular polarization curves of all samples were measured in 3% NaCl solution. The pitting resistance of the Cr rich surface alloy produced by double mixing is far better than the protecting films formed by single mixing or by oxidizing treatment. RBS analysis showed that the Cr rich alloy layer formed by double IBM mixed well with the matrix.
