Abstract

We study anodic growth of TiO2 nanotubes on the surfaces of Ti rings of different thicknesses in a two-electrode cell under 50 V with an anodization time of 30 min at room temperature. The experimental results demonstrate that there are three factors controlling the growth of TiO2 nanotubes on the surfaces of Ti rings – ring radius, ring thickness and residual stress. The length of TiO2 nanotubes decreases with the increase of the radius of Ti rings and the decrease of the ring thickness. The residual stress hinders the growth of TiO2 nanotubes on the surfaces of Ti rings.
