Abstract

Anodic oxidation of 1,2-dimethoxy-4-allylbenzene (methyl eugenol) under a variety of constant current conditions in methanolic sodium hydroxide affords the 1,2- and 1,4-methanol addition products expected from the EEC rC p mechanism. These results differ markedly from those recently reported. 1
