Abstract
During the past year the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey has accomplished triangulation‐surveys in 15 States. In general our objective has been to break down comparatively large nets of horizontal control so as to provide for a closer spacing of arcs of survey‐monuments. One party operating with the portable steel triangulation‐towers worked in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Maryland. A second steel‐tower party made surveys in Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. A third tower‐party operated in the State of New York. In the west one mountain triangulation‐party operated in California and Colorado. Another mountain party operated in Nevada, Idaho, and Montana. At the present time we have a large party in Arkansas establishing control along the Arkansas River Valley from its confluence with the Mississippi River to Tulsa, Oklahoma. This work has been requested by the Corps of Engineers, United States Army, for use in surveying and mapping relative to flood‐control and river‐improvement problems. Detailed control is being established so that no point may be in excess of four miles from a control‐monument. Similar control for the Corps of Engineers was established last fall in the Sacramento River Valley from Sacramento to Red Bluff, California. The expenses in connection with both these projects have been paid from funds advanced to the Survey by the United States Army.
