Abstract

The installation of renewable energy sources based distributed generation (DG) is increasing continuously due to its various techno-economic advantages. Distribution static compensator (D-STATCOM) based reactive power compensation is gaining importance in smart distribution system management. The main high lights of the paper are separate and combined placement of DG and D-STATCOM and their size determination using particle swarm optimization (PSO), assessment of impact of DG and D-STATCOM on loss reduction and savings in losses, determination of annual energy savings and annual cost savings, Optimal allocation of DG/D-STATCOM results improvement in voltage profiles, reduction in losses, annual energy savings as well as savings in annual cost of energy loss. The obtained results are tested and compared for IEEE-33 bus radial distribution systems.
