Abstract

Graviola (Annona muricata) is an edible and medicinal fruit tree indigenous to the warmest tropical areas in America. The products from fruit or leaf and stem have been available as supplements in the market. Under bioactivity-guided isolation, six compounds were prepared from graviola fruit pulp via open column chromatographic and HPLC purification. Three new compounds, muricins J, K, and L as well as three known compounds were elucidated as Annonaceous acetogenins with monotetrahydrofuran ring and four hydroxyls by spectral methods and chemical modification. They showed strong inhibitory activity on human prostate cancer PC-3 cells in vitro.
