Abstract

The objective of this study was to carry out a descriptive analysis of the variables that determine strawberry production in Mexico; to analyze the potential export markets for Mexican strawberries; and to determine the effect of strawberry exports on production using a regression model for the period 1988-2020. The results were that, if the average rural price increases 1%, suppliers will be willing to produce 118,096 tons more and if strawberry exports increase 1%, production will increase 2.9%. The COVID-19 sanitary crisis reduced Mexican strawberry production by 279,794 tons. Since export demand influences strawberry supply, it is necessary to assist small and medium-sized producers to meet export quality standards and take advantage of market opportunities in Latin America and Europe.
