Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the photographic proposal of the sensational press and its impact on the consumption of red chronicles. Considering that sensationalism in the press is present through explicit images of violent events, social tragedies and catastrophes, several unknowns arise: Does the image, generating a greater visual impact, of the sensationalist press affect the consumer interests of popular readers? To what extent do images, as a photoreport, form part of the represented reality of their consumers?The image within journalism attracts the reader's interest, contextualizes, etc. However, within the tabloid press, images generate morbidity in readers, leaving journalistic discourse in the background and limiting their credibility. The analysis using descriptive and explanatory research methods, using scientific observations and interviews, will be used for the use of information relevant to photographic implementation in sensational media and the social impact of consumption of red chronicle.The newspaper Extra not only seeks reading acceptance through its content proposal, but also through the use of images that generate a greater visual impact, appealing to an approximation of the reality represented by its readers.Qualitative research has been carried out because it was interesting to recognize reader profiles, thoughts, reflections and desires; It also sought to recognize spaces and places of development and use of the red chronicle. After that, scenarios were raised that were also analyzed by former editors and journalists of the same, who concluded that the newspaper won in the fulfillment of objectives: won audience, money, and fidelity of a social group that includes it in their families, homes and informal or semiformal jobs.It remains to know how long it will exist and how: printed or digital ?
