Abstract

Objective To evaluate the chemical stability, antimicrobial efficacy and the type of recipient of sodium hypochlorite marketed in the city of Aracaju / SE. Materials and methods To evaluate the antimicrobial activity used the Agar diffusion test; to analyze the free chlorine tenor used to iodometric titration, and for pH measurement, a digital pH meter. Features of the packages were also described. Results The lowest losses of active chlorine tenor of the brands were Tubarão, G. Barbosa, Brilux and QBoa. The product with higher pH was Brilux brand. Concerning microbiological tests, the brands showed antimicrobial activity against the strains tested, except three of them that were ineffective against B. subtilis, S. aureus and E. faecalis. When examining the packaging, it was realized that 10 did not have proper packing. Conclusion Most of the solutions of sodium hypochlorite marketed in Aracaju / SE presented as inadequate to their chemical and microbiological properties tested in this study.
