Abstract

Stroke is a disease that affects a large part of the population with a higher incidence of people with significant risk factors, it is of great importance to know the signs and symptoms in view of the worsening of the clinical outcome in cases of delay in pre-hospital care. The objective of this study was to analyze the knowledge of the population about stroke. An integrative literature review was conducted through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and Nursing Database (BDENF) databases. The descriptors health education, population and stroke were combined. A scarcity of studies on the subject was identified, which may compromise clinical outcomes, increasing morbidity and mortality. The knowledge of the population is incipient in relation to stroke. This result should be a driver of public policies, in view of the Brazilian epidemiological scenario.
