Abstract

In this study we analyzed the concentration of the metals Cd, Cu, Pb, Fe and Ni in the muscle tissue and digestive tract of 13 species of fish from the Taquari River, collected in the northern region of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the Coxim micro-region, in order to quantify and compare the concentrations of these analytes present in these fish with the regulations for inorganic contaminants in Brazil (MERCOSUR) and abroad (FAO/WHO), thus making it possible to indicate whether they are within acceptable standards. The analyses were carried out using the Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry method and the results obtained indicate that Cd and Pb were not detected in all species. For Fe, Cu and Ni, no limits stipulated by legislation were found. Finally, the analysis showed that there are no factors of contamination by potentially contaminating metals through the consumption of fish by the population.
