Abstract

Hot compression tests were conducted at subtransus temperatures both parallel and perpendicular to the columnar-grain direction of laser-deposited Ti–6Al–4V. Negligible anisotropy in stress–strain behavior and the kinetics of dynamic globularization was noted, thus indicating the importance of alpha platelet thickness, not grain shape, on plastic flow and structure evolution.
