Abstract

The polymerization of spirobicyclosiloxanes containing methyl and phenyl side-chain groups in different ratio: has been investigated. These compounds polymerize in presence of base catalyst to yield polymer networks together with soluble products. The content of cross-linked structures depends upon the relationship between the rates of intra- and intermolecular interaction. It has been shown in many cases, that gel can be transformed into soluble state when equilibrated. Under specific conditions it is possible to obtain linear polymers, containing rings in the main chain. Some thermo-mechanical properties of these polymers have been studied.
