Abstract

Vanadium(IV, V) is adsorbed strongly on the strongly basic ion-exchange resin Dowex 1, X-8 (Cl-form) from 0.1 M hydrochloric acid media containing 5 to 6% hydrogen peroxide, while chromium(III, VI) does not show any marked tendency to adsorb from the same media. Molybdenum(VI) and tungsten(VI) behave like vanadium. This anion-exchange behavior of chromium(III, VI), combined with the photometric determination with diphenylcarbazide, allows to develop an effective analytical method for the determination of chromium in vanadium compounds. Results are quoted on the determination of chromium in vanadyl sulfate, ammonium metavanadate, and yttrium (europium) vanadate.
